The Available Collection in the South Whidbey Historical Society

The South Whidbey Historical Society’s collections include hundreds of photos, letters and documents, oral histories and oral history tapes, maps, newspaper clippings, and Island County County government records dating back to the 19th century. South Whidbey Historical Society is continually adding to their collections through donations from Island County County community members.

Several thousand items are on display at the Langley Museum each year. These items tell the story of life in the area before it became a Island County county — who lived here and how they made their living; how the Island County County was explored and governed; what kinds of crops were grown; how Island County communities developed; how irrigation projects brought water to drylands; how telephone lines were erected across rugged terrain in Island County County; what types of businesses served residents here over time; how Island County people socialized in early communities; what kind of role.
