African American Museum in Pierce County County is rich in Pierce County heritage, constituting several churches and a collection of artifacts. African American Museum’s collections include furniture, history DVDs, obituaries, and local history books, preserved and displayed for recreational and educational purposes.

The history of the African American Museum traces back to the 1916 Gothic Revival Church. The site houses numerous churches arising within the 20th century and are of different denominations.

Apart from the 1915 Gothic church, the African American Museum includes:

African American Museum Services

The African American Museum’s mission is to collect, preserve, invest and display the culture and history of Pierce County county. In delivering its mandate, the African American Museum partners with the public in collecting important artifacts such as pictures and tools.

The African American Museum offers the following services to the public:

  • Members of the public are granted free admission to the African American Museum.
  • The African American Museum rents the church building for small gatherings. The building has a kitchen, meeting area, a restroom and is ADA-accessible.
  • The African American Museum offers employment and volunteer opportunities.
  • The African American Museum offers ticket sales, membership registrations to help fund its operations.
  • The African American Museum holds events and fundraisers throughout the year to help raise funds for supporting its operations.
